About Our City Film Festival

Started in 2008, Our City Film Festival showcases DC-focused films. We encourage filmmakers to use the power of their medium to bring our communities together and celebrate the rich cultures, stories and scenes that make up Washington, DC.

This Year

In our seventh consecutive year of screening films that are about or take place in DC, we are taking a break from accepting new films, and will be honoring our past filmmakers and partners with a special event.  We have teamed up with nonprofit partners, Docs In Progress, to help them celebrate their 10 amazing years of giving people the tools to tell stories through documentary filmmaking.

So, for 2014, we present in partnership with Docs In Progress:

DECADE OF DOCS IN OUR CITY

Save the Date:

October 18th and 19th

U.S. Navy Memorial-Burke Theater

This weekend-long special event will screen short and feature length documentaries that highlight Washington, DC beyond the politics and monuments, and into the communities, cultures, and lives that make up our city. You may recognize some of the titles as many of them are alumni to OCFF and all of them have been workshopped through Docs In Progress.

This event is made possible in part by the Humanities Council of Washington and the National Endowment for the Arts.

More info about the films and schedule coming soon. Be sure to stay updated by signing up for our email list and following us on social media.

History-Present-Future

Our City Film Festival was founded in 2008 by Yachad, a non-profit committed to sustaining affordable housing and community unity in our nation's capital. Each year the festival has grown in audience, venue and press coverage.

In 2013, Film Festival Founder and Director, Kendra Rubinfeld, left Yachad to found her own PR and Marketing firm with Co-Principal, Travis Hare.  Together they formed Kendra Rubinfeld PR (KRPR). During this separation from Yachad, KRPR obtained the rights to the Our City Film Festival.  Since then, KRPR has been planning new and exciting things for the festival. This year we will be taking a break from accepting new films, and have teamed up with nonprofit partners, Docs In Progress, to co-present a special event, DECADE OF DOCS IN OUR CITY.

Big things are in the works for 2015's festival.  We will start accepting new submissions in September 2014, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for more on that.

Thank you for your continued support of the Our City Film Festival. It is because of you-the fans, the filmmakers, partners, and communities-that it is what it is.
